UniLang

UniLang or UniLang Community is a multilingual, web-based, language community, with free membership and online language resources publicly accessible.

Community

The UniLang Community, an open non-profit organization, is composed by a varied array of international members who share a common interest in languages and linguistics.

The Unilang Community is cited in the UNESCO webpage and search engine as "a home for everybody interested in any aspect of language(s) or linguistics". [UniLang website is referenced at the UNESCO website search engine. http://portal.unesco.org/]

UniLang's resources, similar to Wikipedia, have been produced collaboratively by volunteers around the world and can be edited by any member with access to the Internet.

The community openly discuss, create and support the resources available online. All data, with few exceptions, is licensed under an open license: the UniLang Public License. The community has been reviewed by various media and has won a number of awards. [Unilag has been reviewed in the show Click Online on BBC World in 2003. UniLang was a finalist in the Stockholm Challenge 2003/2004. http://www.stockholmchallenge.se/]

The UniLang Community rely on his members to create and maintain the online language resources and forums. The UniLang members are organized into related groups and coordinate themselves the projects of their interest.

The UniLang website make use of forums to discuss language topics and chat rooms to have live interaction with other members. The UniLang Chat-box supports a number of Unicode scripts, in order to allow members to write in different languages, as Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, Russian, among others.

Members can submit their proposed language resources to publication on the website. Various language resources have a printer-friendly equivalent. The UniLang website offers his members an open wiki resource, similar to Wikipedia, in order to add and edit articles. An user can create and publish on the website her own language quizzes and exercises to the use of the community. A translation interface offers the members the possibility to translate the UniLang web pages and make them available to the community.

UniLang publishes an online magazine called Babel Babble, edited with articles written by members of the community.

*The Of Course Project. The official UniLang manuals that explain how to contribute. There is documentation on how to use the wiki, how to write HTML code for UniLang and how to write stories, dictionaries, quizzes and phrase books from scratch.
*On-Line Courses.On-line courses to learn a variety of languages, ranging from a basic to advanced level.
*Grammar References. It provides grammar resources and vocabulary in a structured form.
*The UniLang Wiki. Is a database of language and linguistic-related information. Any UniLang member may edit and contribute to these pages.
*Grammar References.UniLang members can review a language's grammar with the use of grammar references.
*Vocabulary Lists & Dictionaries.Available on many languages.
*Pronunciation & Script guides.To aid in learning the pronunciation of a certain language and/or writing system.
*Phrasebook.Phrase books analogous to traveler's phrase books. Available in many languages.
*Stories.This resource provides several stories with translation alongside.
*Interactive Language Resources.Quizzes, games and exercises, where the members can practice vocabulary and grammar with immediate automatic feedback.
*Daily Language Mail.Any member can subscribe to a daily mail service, which will mail them some vocabulary and/or phrases every day.
