Bridport (West Bay) was the terminus of the Bridport Railway in the west of the English county of Dorset. Opened on 31 March 1884, it is sited in the centre of the area known as Bridport Harbour. The station was called West Bay, though, as the traffic through the harbour had fallen off and the GWR wanted to encourage the development of a resort town around the station. Closed during the First World War and again briefly in 1920, the station closed to passengers with the extension on 22 September 1930 when the GWR gave up on hopes of this ever happening.

Goods trains continued to use the site until 1962.

Operated by the Great Western Railway, it was placed in the Western Region when the railways were nationalised in 1948.

The Site Today

After many years as the office of a boat yard the station is now restored with a short length of track at the platform. An information office occupies the building. [http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/stations/b/bridport_west_bay/index.shtml]
