- Washdyke Lagoon
Washdyke Lagoon is a brackish shallow coastal lagoon approximately 1 kilometre north of
Timaru , in SouthCanterbury ,New Zealand . The lagoon is approximately 255 hectares in area and classified as awildlife refuge .Fed by several water sources including Washdyke Creek, Washdyke Lagoon is a feeding ground for a variety of birds including waterfowl, handfuls of migratory
godwit s andsandpiper s,heron s and other species of water birds.Gull s anddotterel s nest on the shingle barrier of the eastern side. A reef borders part of the coast off the barrier, attractingoystercatcher s andturnstone s.References
