Veterinary assistant

Veterinary Assistants help veterinarians and veterinary technicians care for animals. The preferred education is completion of a CTE Program and high school diploma/GED. The job does not require certification or licensing. Veterinary assistants need to enjoy working with animals and owners. The job requires lifting and holding animals, some office skills, and record keeping. The work setting may be in animal hospitals, clinics, and research labs. They may also be employed in animal shelters, and in some cases, pet stores. The earnings of veterinary assistants are in the $14-28,000 range.

*janitorial duties/keeping clinic clean
*clean and sterilize instruments
*maintain equipment
*assist with animal care (feed, water, exercise, etc)

*clerical duties
*prepares vaccines under Veterinarian/Veterinary Technician supervision
