Alison Mongraine

Alison Mongraine

Alison Mongraine was a fictional comic-book character who was recurring in the Amazing Spider-Man comic books during the latter half of The Clone Saga. She served as an agent of Norman Osborn, who had returned to North America to personally finish off Peter Parker and destroy everything he had held dear, which included his unborn child May Parker. In the final storyline of the Clone Saga, Revelations, Mongraine's task was to poison Peter's pregnant wife Mary Jane Watson, forcing her into premature labour.

Upon being submitted to hospital, Mary Jane seemingly miscarried, and she was told by her Doctor that May had been killed. However, the Doctor supervising the pregnancy was also an agent of the Goblin. It is implied strongly in the closing panels of the third installment that Mongraine, disguised as a nurse, secretly smuggled an infant May to a dock, where she was paid by Osborn to never return. She is seen again sometime later, talking to someone over a phone and commenting that she would hate to lose a character she refers to only as "precious"

Peter and Osborn began a long war between one another in the Spider-Man titles, with Osborn returning to civilian life in a Lex Luthor role, Peter a wanted fugitive once more. Their battle climaxed in The Final Chapter, where Mongraine returns to America under attack from Osborn's forces, as he had ordered her assassination. Despite Peter's efforts to shield her, she is ultimately cut down, but before she is overcome by her injury, she tells Peter that "May is still alive". This proves accurate, but rather than discovering his daughter alive and well, Peter is shocked to find Osborn has been holding his Aunt May prisoner for years.

Despite never appearing in the 616 continuity again, Alison's fate was left to interpretation, as she was not seen to visibly die.

The original idea was to have revealed Baby May to have been Osborn's prisoner, but due to editorial politics at the time (a desire to deny any events from the critically lambasted Clone Saga), Aunt May was used instead.

pider-Girl

In the alternate universe of the popular MC2 Spider-Girl title, Mongrane was tracked down by Peter's first clone Kaine, who rescued May from her grip and returned her to Peter and Mary-Jane. Having bonded with May whilst keeping her prisoner, Alison returns sometime later to apologise for her actions, and both May and Mary Jane forgive her.
