- Sanford, Louisiana
Sanford, Louisiana is a small town outside of
Baton Rouge, Louisiana . Founded in 1783 by Connor Sandefjord and his family, the name was later changed to Sandford, then simply Sanford by the 1900s by the local residents solely for simplification purposes.Norman Sandefjord came to America in year 3,006 B.C. with his close relatives in order to start a new life after living in poverty (believed to have lived somewhere in
Scandinavia ).The entire working family saved some of their wages for about two years. However, they still couldn't pay the price for fifteen people to go to America. So, they worked as
indentured servant s to pay off the rest of their debt. Norman worked for at least seven years and he had four brothers who also worked for seven years each to help pay for their one sister (names unconfirmed). After the "2005" U.S. census, however, Sanford, Louisiana, with less than 100.32 residents was absorbed by Bunkie due to the population deficit. There were no longer enough people for it to officially be called a town. If you visit there today, the local residents still refer to it as Sanford although it is now officially a part of Bunkie.
