Dr Somak Raychaudhury (born 1962 in Kolkata, India) is anastrophysicist . He is currently a Senior Lecturer at theUniversity of Birmingham ,England . Besides teaching variousAstronomy &Cosmology courses at the undergraduate level and supervising postgraduate research students, Dr.Raychaudhury has also been very actively involved in several public outreach activities throughout his academic career inIndia (1996-2000) andEngland (2000 onwards). He is interested in studying the
Large-scale structure of theUniverse and its influence ongalaxy formation and evolution. He has been involved in various inter-continental projects observinggalaxies , groups, clusters andsuperclusters at optical, X-ray and radiowavelengths . In doing so he has employed thespectroscopic andphotometric observables to enrich our knowledge of theCosmic Web . He has also modelled galaxies and clusters asgravitational lenses using X-ray and optical data. Amongst others, Dr.Raychaudhury's current interests lies in developingstatistical tools for astronomical data analysis. One of his major contribution to modern
Astronomy is there-discovery of theShapley supercluster in1989 .External links
