- Henriques family
The Henriques family, prominent Sephardic Jewish benefactors in the 19th century, is of Portuguese Jewish descent. A firm Henriques Brothers, West-Indian merchants, existed in the 1800s [Jacob Henriques. (1911-1898) from "Jewish Encyclopedia" [http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?artid=600&letter=H] . It is not clear when the Henriques family migrated to England, but the middle name Quixano stems apparently from the marriage of Moses Henriques and Abigail Quixano, daughter of Abraham Quixano. Their son [http://kurrein.com/Henriques/f26.htm#f23 Abraham Quixano Henriques] was father of the philanthropists Jacob and David Henriques. Retrieved 20 September 2007.] .
