Viva is known for the depth of its programming, because each DJ is hand selected for the strength of their musical selections. Shows cover genres like dance music, indie rock, pop, rap and jazz.
The station was founded in June 2006 and recently celebrated its first anniversary of broadcasting. It has 60,000 unique listeners a month. Viva was created in order to give DJs, musicians, art and fashion personalities a place to showcase their favorite music.
Its slogan is "Viva Radio – Bringing online radio back on track!"
Contributors put together new shows for the station weekly. Viva has 57 contributors, many of them from Los Angeles and New York City. The site is currently at capacity for contributors, but submissions are welcome for future consideration. Shows are typically one hour long but may also run two hours.
Viva has a studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn for conducting live shows and interviews.

VivaLive is a series where the station records and rebroadcasts live music performances. The station loosely edits the live material with interviews reflecting artist mood and experience. Each part of the series is one to two hours long and airs about two weeks after the recording date. Current recordings include performances by: !!!, Battles, Bonde Do Role, Black Dice, Glass Candy, The Fucking Champs, The Rapture and Simian Mobile Disco.
Viva Me + You Series
In addition to regular programming, Viva invites contributors and others to come into the Brooklyn studio to record live broadcasts, known as Me + You sessions, with host Ted Shumaker. Guests play music and discuss their selections. Recent Me + You participants include Suzanne Vega, Matthew Dear, Dennis Coffey, Tyvek, Black Lips, Christy and Emily, Mike Bones,Andrew W.K., MGMT, Dark Meat, Dez Mona, Jeff Jensen, King Khan, Love as Laughter.
Naked Fridays
One of Viva Radio's newest radio programs that features weekly mixes from today's up and coming DJs from North America.The inspiration for Naked Fridays comes from the classic lunchtime and midnight hour DJ mixes on house, hip hop, and R&B stations like Detroit's WJLB, and Chuck Chillout's Saturday Nights on NYC's KISS 98.7 FM. Sometimes obscure but always groundbreaking and straight banging, these radio mixes have launched dance floor anthems and movements to eager ears and savvy soles. Recent contributors include Joseph Colbourne, Justine D, and Tropical Jeremy.
77 Boadrum Online Companion
Viva hosts a site with exclusive video footage from the Boredoms 77 Boardrum drum event. On July 7th, 2007, devoted participants and fans gathered at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood to experience an ensemble of 77 drummers performing as "one giant instrument" under the direction of Japanese music legends
the Boredoms . The Viva site hosts video interviews with many of the drummers, as well as a rare interview with Boredoms leader Yamantaka Eye.Viva Contributors
