The Postgraduate Medical Journal was established by the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine in 1925 [John MacAlister's Other Vision: A History of the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine by Gordon C. Cook, 175 pp, £29.95, ISBN 1-85775-789-0, 2005. Oxford, England] . The Postgraduate Medical Journal continues to be the official journal of the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine. The PMJ is currently published on behalf of the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine by the BMJ Publishing Group.

Aims

The Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine aims for the Postgraduate Medical Journal to support clinical trainees by a focus on core competencies expected of junior doctors and on additional clinical background important for examination candidates; to provide flexible educational and practical resources for teaching; to contribute to the continuing professional development of doctors of all grades and specialties by providing opportunities to publish and to learn from relevant, up-to-date editorials, reviews and original articles and correspondence on clinical matters.

Articles published

The journal aims to contribute to the Continuing Professional Development of all doctors by publishing papers on a wide range of topics relevant to the practicing clinician and teacher. Papers published in PMJ include those that describe relevance and impact of translational research on clinical practice (translational medicine); that focus on core competency; that describe current practice and new developments in all branches of medicine; that provide background relevant to examinations; and papers on medical education and medical education research. The PMJ supports CPD by providing the opportunity for doctors to publish many type of articles including original clinical research; reviews; quality improvement reports; editorials, and correspondence on clinical matters.

Frequency and circulation
