Sten scores

Sten scores

A sten score is a standard score often used in the interpretation of psychological tests. It has a mean of 5.5 and a standard deviation of 2. Thus, approximately 95% of respondents would typically fall between two standard deviations of the mean (i.e., 1.5 and 9.5). Use of standardised scores makes it easier to interpret test scores which are otherwise on arbitrary metrics.
