Gulsun Karamustafa (born
2 December 1946 ,Ankara ,Turkey ) is a Turkish contemporary artist and film director.Born in 1946, she has been a major artist in contemporary Turkey since the 1970s. Her career was directly affected by the political violence of the 1970s and 1980s. Her work comments on women's position in Turkey both historically and in contemporary Turkey. She has also created a series of works that form a counterdiscourse to Orientalism. Finally, she has addressed issues of migration. She works primarily in video and installation art.She has co-directed one film "My Cinemas" and is the artistic director of several other films, including "The Heart Queen".
