Kmart realism

Kmart realism

Kmart realism is a term coined by detractors of the so-called "minimalist" writers who gained prominence in the late 70's and early 80's including Raymond Carver, Ann Beattie, Joy Williams, Mary Robison, Frederick Barthelme, Bobbie Ann Mason, and a few others.

Detractors included Tom Wolfe, Madison Smartt Bell, Frederick Busch, and Cynthia Ozyck, who said "less is less."
