Trebeništa

Trebeništa

Trebeništa is an ancient Illyrian necropolis dating from the Iron Age around the 7th century B.C. It is located a near the town of Ohrid, Republic of Macedonia. It is believed that the town was used by the people from the ancient town of Lychindos. Trebeništa was discovered in 1918 from Bulgarian archeologist Bogdan Filov and since then, large amounts of graves, four golden masks, and some iron earrings and plates have been found. These finds are housed in the Archaeological Museums in Ohrid, Sofia, and Belgrade.
