Roy Ferguson is the current
New Zealand Ambassador to theUnited States . [ [http://www.mfat.govt.nz/Embassies/3-NZ-Ambassadors/countries-u.php New Zealand Heads of Overseas Missions - NZ Ministry of Fopreign Affairs and Trade ] ] He was Director of the Americas Division in theMinistry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) from 2002-2005, and was on the Boards of the New Zealand-United States Council, Fulbright New Zealand, the Ian Axford Fellowships and the New Zealand Centre for Latin American Studies. Ferguson previously served in Washington as Deputy Chief of Mission between 1991 and 1995. From 1999-2002 he served as the New Zealand Ambassador toSouth Korea . In 2002 he concurrently became the New Zealand Ambassador toNorth Korea . He has also served inManila andCanberra .Ferguson was educated at the
University of Canterbury where he received an MA in History and Political Science. He was awarded the Canterbury Fellowship and a Fulbright Travel Grant which enabled him to study at theUniversity of Pennsylvania . He graduated from U Penn with an MA in International Relations. More recently he completed the Advanced Management Programme at theHarvard Business School in 1998.Ferguson took up his United States assignment in mid-February 2006, replacing Ambassador John Wood who has returned to New Zealand.
