Hague system

Hague system

The Hague System is an international industrial design law treaty, concluded in 1925 in the Hague, the Netherlands and revised at London (1934) and the Hague (1960). The treaty was supplemented by the Additional Act of Monaco (1961), the Complementary Act of Stockholm (1967) and the Protocol of Geneva in 1975 and amended at Geneva in 1979 and at Geneva 1999. The Hague System has a simplified and cost effective procedure for the owner of an industrial design to obtain protection for his or her design in several countries. Under the Hague System, a single application may be filed with the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organisation having the same effect as if the design had been registered in each of the designated countries of the application unless protection is refused by the competent office of that country.
