Amalgamated Lithographers of America

Amalgamated Lithographers of America

The Amalgamated Lithographers of America (ALA) is a labor union formed in 1882 to represent professional lithographers.

History

The ALA was formed in April 18, 1882 by eighteen journeymen lithographers calling themselves the "Romar Fishing Club". This name was used to conceal their true intentions from their bosses. Tradition holds that the first meeting was in a fishing shack in Jersey City Heights, NJ on the west bank of the Hudson river. [ [http://www.gciu.org/chronology.shtml GCIU: Chronology ] ]
