Rhodesian constitutional referendum, 1969
- Rhodesian constitutional referendum, 1969
On June 20th, 1969, the white minority government of Ian Smith held a referendum, in which the predominantly white electorate was asked two questions: whether or not Rhodesia should adopt a new Constitution, which would entrench white minority rule, and whether or not the country should sever its links with the British Crown and become a republic.
The result was 55 000 votes to 21 000 in favour.
