The Swordless Samurai

The Swordless Samurai

The Swordless Samurai is a book of leadership advice based on the life of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a peasant who became the supreme leader of Japan and the Emperor's proxy during the final decade of the sixteenth century. The book follows Hideyoshi's life through the tumultuous period known variously as the Age of Warring Clans, the Age of Wars, the Warring States Era, etc., tracing his rise from poverty through service to Oda Nobunaga, considered the first great unifier of feudal Japan. Published by St. Martin's Press, "The Swordless Samurai" was originally released in Japanese by Gentosha [http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%B9%BB%E5%86%AC%E8%88%8E] under the title "Toyotomi Hideyoshi no Keiei Juku".
