affiliations =WGGM (820 AM) is a
radio station broadcasting aGospel Music format. Licensed toChester, Virginia , USA, it serves the Richmond area. The station is currently owned byHoffman Communications .The station started broadcasting on the 1410 frequency as daytimer WIKI in 1966. At the time, WIKI broadcast R&B music. Local "urban legends" say someone, not pleased with the R&B music format, knocked down the station's Chester Va based tower shortly after it's sign on and left a burning cross after the demolition, possibly as a "message".
Whatever the reason, by 1969 WIKI was a country station. In the early seventies the station switched to a religious format, In the late 70s the station adopted the WGGM calls ( "Great Gospel Music " )
In 1988 the station moved to the 820 frequency which allowed them to go 24 hours. Tracy Lynn, later a popular local traffic reporter at WWBT-TV, was the first nighttime DJ on WGGM .
