Barry Svigals

Barry Svigals, FAIA (1948-) is a Connecticut-based architect and sculptor. He is the founder and Managing Partner of Svigals + Partners [http://www.svigals.com/] , an architectural design firm in New Haven, Connecticut. Svigals + Partners was founded in 1983 and has a staff of about 30.

The December 28, 1992 Doonesbury comic strip [http://images.ucomics.com/comics/db/1992/db921228.gif] features a reference to Barry Svigals as trying to bribe character Zonker Harris to get his name into the strip. Doonesbury creator G. B. Trudeau is a fellow graduate of Yale.

In May 2007, Svigals was elevated to the Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) for his contribution to the profession of architecture, specifically for "reawakening the tradition of figurative sculpture in architecture" [http://www.yale.edu/opa/v35.n30/story26.html] . Major buildings completed by the firm that include large-scale sculptural works by Mr. Svigals include the Carroll School of Management (Fulton Hall) at Boston College, the Center for Undergraduate Education at University of Connecticut in Storrs, the New Academic Center at Albertus Magnus College, and several public schools in New Haven.
