Matt Mignanelli Born 1983
Rhode IslandNationality United States Field Painting Training RISD Matt Mignanelli (born June 16, 1983 Providence, RI) is an artist based in New York City best known for his abstract geometric paintings.
Education
In 2005 Mignanelli graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Work
Mignanelli's paintings explore the relationship between structure and nature, which is relayed through his use of gradating light and structural elements to create new undefined and visually complex environments. He draws inspiration from energy, pattern, light, and emotion. Structural elements are referenced throughout his work in the form of patterning and textures, along with a vibrant color palette informed by neon nightscapes.
Mignanelli's paintings have been exhibited extensively throughout the United States and internationally at SCOPE Art Show in New York City with Spinello Projects (2011), Marianne Boesky Gallery in New York City, Recoat Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland, Medicine Agency in San Francisco, CA, and MFK Galerie in Berlin, Germany.
His work has been featured in numerous publications such as The San Francisco Examiner, DIRTY Magazine, It's Nice That, GQ (UK edition), and Dazed & Confused. He completed a large-scale installation for art publication DIRTY MAGAZINE at SCOPE Art Show in New York City, as well as murals for Nickelodeon (2007) and CITYarts New York (2007). Mignanelli has lectured at Parsons The New School for Design and the Art Director’s Club of Tulsa.
In 2011 he was awarded an Artist's Grant and attended the Vermont Studio Center as an artist-in-residence.
He worked on and can be seen painting in the Björk video "Declare Independence", directed by Michel Gondry.
Matt Mignanelli has completed artist series' with Stussy, Coach, Inc., and Akademiks.
