Before a brief stint at the New York Red Bulls where he played alongside the likes of top class professionals such as Josmer Altidore. Like most American players from high school John played College soccer for Seton Hall. He was the outstanding player in his freshman year and went on to score week in week out collegiate Soccer. John was a part of the famous “Three headed monster” in attack for Seton Hall alongside Sacha Kljestan (Chivas, USA national team starter and regarded as the best MLS prospect) and Eliseo Giusfredi (Spartak Moscow). John performed well with his high calibre team mates scoring 9 and assisting 4 in 14 matches at the halfway point of the season finishing the season at topscorer.
