Thomas Cox Meech (
1868 -20 October 1940 ) was an Englishjournalist ,author andlawyer .Born in
Beaminster and educated atArdingly College , Meech was initially intent on becoming a lawyer but instead turned to journalism, becoming editor of "Ayrshire Post " at the age of 21. He was subsequently editor of the "Lancashire Daily Post" and the "Northern Echo ". Meech remained in touch with the law and was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple. He was a Clerk of Inductment on the Western Circuit and in the Temple, retaining chambers in Temple Garden.His first novel "Only a Collier" appeared (as by Tom Meech) was published in 1890 and he wrote a number of books, including biographies of MP
Thomas Burt and US PresidentWilliam McKinley , as well as a history of theBritish Isles called "This Generation" (1927-28). WithLadbroke Black he wrote several books under the pen namePaul Urquhart .Like Black, he was a long-time supporter of the Liberal party, and in 1922 Meech stood as an Independent Liberal for
