Next album =Free Peace Sweet (1996)Homegrown is a 1995
album by the British indie groupDodgy . The best known song on the album is "Staying out for the Summer".The name of the album "Homegrown" and indeed the 1970s
Volkswagen camper van featured on the cover clearly makes an obvious reference tocannabis andhippie culture. The first single from the "Homegrown" album was "Melodies Haunt You". It features Dodgy's version of the
Northern Soul classic "The Snake" and their early recording "Summer Fayre".1992 saw the original release of Dodgy's second single from the album "Staying out for the Summer". It was a double
gatefold CD of 8 songs including an acoustic version of Soul_II_Soul's hit "Back to Life."In 1995 "Staying out for the Summer" was re-vamped, later becoming the theme tune to the television coverage of the
Glastonbury Festival that year. The single includes a version of Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher" and the artwork inside depicts apsychedelic bostin boy.The video to "Staying out for the Summer" features a flying Volkswagen camper van in a manner similar to
Harry Potter . It also shows guitarist Andy Miller sky-surfing on a Twister mat and suggests that the dodgy camper van is responsible for makingcrop circles .The third single from the album, "So Let Me Go Far," was also released as a double
gatefold CD. It features the song "UK RIP", live recordings from Ilford Island and remixes byJah Wobble andTransglobal Underground . The video for "So Let Me Go Far" was recorded inMorocco ."Making The Most Of" was the final single to be released from the "Homegrown" album. The artwork for this single depicts the band sharing loaves and fishes. A version of the song was recorded in French. Again a double gatefold CD, it contains "The Ludlow Sessions".
During the release of the singles from "Homegrown" in 1994, Dodgy encouraged people to oppose the odious Criminal Justice Bill and Public Order Bill put forward by the Conservative government of the time.
The artwork of the "Homegrown" album is curious and captivating. In particular the Volkswagen camper van hosts shelves displaying a
goldfish bowl, copy of theSilver Surfer comic, a rubber toysnake ,Mickey Mouse , a largealarm clock , and aTimothy Leary book.Track listing
