World War II and its aftermath, the following 45escort aircraft carrier s served in theRoyal Navy . Some were converted frommerchant ship s by the Royal Navy, but many were constructed or converted by theUnited States Navy and sold to the RN or transferred under theLend-Lease program. All of the ships survived the war apart from those noted here. After the war the surviving ships were returned to the U.S.; re-entered merchant service; were scrapped; or were transferred to other Navies.The following escort carriers were converted from merchant ships (not to be confused with
