Virginia International Tattoo

The Virginia International Tattoo began in 1997 and is the signature event of the Virginia Arts Festival. Presented annually in Norfolk, Virginia, the Virginia International Tattoo is an exhibition of military bands, massed pipes and drums, military drill teams, gymnasts, Scottish dancers, and choirs.

It is is the largest show of its kind in the United States [ cite web|title=American Bus Association|url=http://www.buses.org/?q=node/641] , involving a cast of over 800 artists from many different countries [cite web|title=Hamptonroads.com|url=http://content.hamptonroads.com/story.cfm?story=123281&ran=7012] , and has over 28,000 people attending every year, including over 12,000 area students at the annual student matineesFact|date=October 2007 The Virginia International Tattoo has been elected as one of seven “founding members” of the International Association of Tattoo Organizers (IATO) [cite web|title=IATO|url=http://www.tattoo-org.com/] .

In 2008, eight countries will be represented by groups including: The Dutch Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, Kingdom of Tonga Defence Services Royal Corps of Musicians, IMPS Motorcycle Display Team, Scotch College Perth Pipe Band, OzScot Australia Dance Team, Traditional Turkish Mehter Band, South African National Defence Force Band, U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Band and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
