Openeco

In September 2007, Sun Microsystems in partnership with [http://www.natlogic.com/ Natural Logic] created [http://openeco.org/ OpenEco] , a global on-line community that provides tools to help participants assess, track, and compare an organization's energy performance, share proven best practices to reduce greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions, and encourage sustainable innovation.

OpenEco was founded on the idea that working together in communities and sharing tools and information between organizations can maximize the chances for success for everyone in solving environmental challenges.

Sun is funding the development and operation of OpenEco and plans to form an advisory board to oversee the community's long-term direction. OpenEco is free and available to any organization interested in participating. It will include an open source development process that will manage the code that operates within the community site. [http://www.ceres.org/ Ceres] , a leading coalition of investors and environmental groups, has joined OpenEco.org as an early participant.

OpenEco has over 2040 registered users and 580 registered organizations as of August 2008.
