East Kirkby

East Kirkby is a village situated on the A155 south of Horncastle in Lincolnshire.

Scattered along the main road, it features a [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/118974 windmill] tower, and [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/104798 St Nicholas] church (Church of England or Anglican). The village pub is the [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/700438 Red Lion] on "Fen Lane". A mile along the road to Spilsby is Hagnaby.

Near the village is the site of the former RAF East Kirkby, a World War II Royal Air Force base (code name "Silksheen"). One corner is now the home of Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre and is the home of 'Just Jane', an Avro Lancaster B.VII Bomber (registration NX-611) which has been restored to taxiable condition and which persistant rumours in the press and amongst aviation enthusiasts say may one day soon be further restored to flying condition again. That would make it one of only three flying Lancaster Bombers in the world.

The airfield is also used for " [http://www.sprinting.org.uk/fixtures/nsafixtures.htm sprinting] " on motorbikes.
