Emergent Game Technologies

Emergent Game Technologies was founded in 2002 and develops middleware technologies for building, testing, managing and expanding video games. Emergent [http://www.emrgent.net] merged with NDL (Numerical Design Limited), the developer’s of the Gamebryo game engine, in August 2005, and the newly-formed company assumed Emergent’s name. Emergent is noted for having attracted $12 million in [http://www.virtualworldsnews.com/2007/07/emergent-secure.html/ venture funding] in a round led by Jerusalem Venture Partners and Worldview Technology Partners.

Emergent is headquartered in Calabasas, California, and maintains offices in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Austin, Texas. It also has sales and support offices in the UK, Poland and Japan.

Emergent’s Products

Emergent’s product line is known as Emergent Elements [http://www.emergent.net/index.php/homepage/products-and-services/products-and-services] . The product line includes:

Gamebryo Element – A game engine and set of tools that supports multiple game platforms, including PC, Xbox and Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 and 3, and Wii. Gamebryo Element has been used on over 200 games, including Bethesda Softworks’ "Oblivion" and EA Mythic’s "Warhammer Online".

The Emergent Platform [http://www.emergent.net/index.php/homepage/products-and-services/platform/platform] – This technology platform was announced in September 2007 and is currently in beta. It combines solutions from HP, Emergent, 3Tera [http://www.3tera.com/] , Aria Systems [http://www.ariasystems.com/] and others to help game developers develop and deploy their online games. This product was cancelled as of Q1 of 2008.

Metrics Element [http://www.emergent.net/index.php/homepage/products-and-services/metrics] – Metrics is an analysis tool that helps convert raw game data into information that can be used for decision-making purposes in the game development process. This product was cancelled as of Q1 of 2008

Emergent’s Partners

Emergent maintains partnerships with console makers (Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony), graphics hardware companies (ATI, Intel and Nvidia), complementary middleware developers (e.g. Scaleform, RAD Game Tools, Havok, Ageia, etc), content creation tool developers (Autodesk) and others.

In September 2007, Emergent formed a partnership with Hewlett-Packard to help support the Emergent Platform. Under the agreement, the Emergent Platform will be fully integrated with HP Flexible Computing Services, an enterprise offering that will provide game companies with access to an HP infrastructure on a "pay-as-you-go" basis.

They also signed an agreement with the Chinese game developer Winking Entertainment [http://www.winkingworks.com/] in August 2007 and with the Japanese game developer Acquire in September 2007 to help them market, sell and support their technology in those country.

Emergent's management team consists of Geoffrey Selzer (Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board), Scott Johnson (President), John Austin (Vice President, Technical and Academic Partnerships), David Gregory (Vice President of Technology and Systems Architect), Doug Kubel (Vice President of Product Development), Stephen Peacock (Head of Worldwide Sales), Karina Speicher (Vice President of Operations and Finance), Linda Bonnano (Vice President of Product Management), and John Goodale (Vice President of Marketing).
