Hendrik van der Borcht the Elder (1583,
Brussels -26 July 1651 ,Frankfurt [ [http://www.rkd.nl/rkddb/(0cyr2eqenrhabgid3gey2yzp)/detail.aspx?parentpriref=10695 Borcht, Hendrik (I) van der at the Netherlands Institute for Art History] ] ) was a Flemish engraver andstill life painter of flowers and fruit, who was mainly active in Germany.Troubles in the
Low Countries obliged his family to move from Brussels to Germany in 1586. By 1598 they had settled atFrankenthal , where he became a pupil ofGillis van Valkenborch . Between 1604 and 1610 he was in Italy, probably inRome . In 1627 he settled in Frankfurt. TheEarl of Arundel , passing through Frankfurt, became the patron of his son, Hendrik the Younger.He made the following etchings:
