Karemeen is the
Malayalam name for "Etroplus suratensis ", acichlid species which is also called pearl fish or green chromide. It feeds on algea, plant material and inscets. It is found throughoutKerala , especially in theKerala backwaters aroundAlleppey .It is considered a delicacy in the
cuisine of Kerala . There are many recipes that are available on the net (see list below). Some of the prominent dishes are the KaremeenFry , Karemeen Molly and Karemeen Pollichathu.External links
