Mutant Records

Mutant Records is a contemporary independent experimental music record label, founded in 1988, based in Canada. Mutant Records is run by Jeremy Morrow, also known for his attachment to the musical group, Focus 23. Lately the label has become notorious for releasing extremely limited editions, so low that obtaining them is essentially unrealistic. This is generally seen as a joke about labels that make things so rare that people cannot enjoy what the label produces.

Although the label roster has dwindled in past years to releasing nothing but Focus 23 material, it has run through a series of groups, mostly in the late 80's to early 90's. The style of music varies, dabbling with punk (Instant Regurgitation, Large Dong, The Semen Heads), harsh industrial (Parasites, Whirl), folk (Gerber The Wonder Baby, Orgasmic Hiccup), experimental (Focus 23, Industrial Strength Noise, The Mutation Weekend, Penishead, Thank You For Not Smoking), lo-fi (Cancerhead, Gorf, Idiot Spaceman, Rodel Cast, Shit Ass Panic), ambient minimalism (Focus 23), techno (The Rejects), and more.

In addition to music, Mutant Records also released a series of books by Scott Cunningham, Jeremy Morrow and Sean Wilson. They also hosted a number of live shows for their artists between 1989 and 1992.

Related record labels include Sir Edward Productions, Doomsday Transmissions, and Xcreteria/Third Force.
