Miyako Ishiuchi

Miyako Ishiuchi

Miyako Ishiuchi (石内 都 Ishiuchi Miyako?, born March 27, 1947 in Nitta District, Gunma and raised in Yokosuka, Kanagawa), is a renowned Japanese photographer.[1]

Ishiuchi has produced collections of photography since the late 1970s. Her first book was a study of Yokosuka, where she grew up.[2]

Her work favors the oversize grainy prints and gritty subject matter that characterize the pictures of many photographers in the late 1960s and 70s who preferred the are-bure, or grainy-blurry. [3]

She began to take close-ups of the bodies of the very old in the early 1990s.[3]
