Netcell was a fabless semiconductor company that specialized in the development of computer storage solutions for the consumer and enterprise markets. The company pioneered the concept of a Storage Processing Unit (SPU), a device that accelerates hard drive intensive processing tasks, provides data protection against hard drive failures through RAID 3 (when used with multiple drives), and makes it simple to upgrade storage capacity. The company's flagship product, the Revolution SPU, was offered in two configurations: the NC3000 chip and the more powerful NC5000 chip. In 2005, various add-in-board manufacturers, such as XFX and PNY Technologies, released storage processing cards based on Netcell's Revolution SPU.
