Argentine Navy cruiser, purchased from theUnited States Navy onJanuary 11 ,1951 . The "Nueve de Julio" was decommissioned in 1978 and sent toJapan to be scrapped.General History
The ARA "Nueve de Julio" (C-5) was built as the USS|Boise|CL-47 in 1936 by
Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company ,Newport News ,Virginia . The "Boise" was a "Brooklyn"-classlight cruiser , named for the city of Boise, the capital of Idaho. She served inWWII in thePacific theater before decommissioning onJuly 11 ,1946 . She was later sold to theArgentine Navy onJanuary 11 ,1951 .During her service in the Argentine Navy, she participated in theRevolución Libertadora .See also
