"Calliostoma benthicola" is a medium-sized deepwater sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc. Some authors have placed this species in the family Calliostomatidae, other malacologists would place it in the family Trochidae.

Range of Distribution

This species is endemic to New Zealand. It is found off the north Canterbury coast of the South Island.

Habitat

This top shell lives at depths of about 100 m.

hell description

The shell is of light build, with almost straight spire outlines, and six prominently beaded spiral cords on the penultimate whorl.

The external shell coloration is light brown, with dark reddish-brown cords.

The shell height is up to 22 mm, and the width is up to 22 mm.
