Gary Potts

Gary Potts was the former chief of the Temagami First Nation and the Teme-Augama Anishnabai in Temagami, Ontario, Canada. He was a leader of the Red Squirrel Road blockades in 1988-1989, [http://temagami.nativeweb.org/gary-potts.html Gary Potts, Temagami First Nation] Retrieved on 2007-09-29] which were a part of Temagami's struggle to protect their ancestral lands. After being overwhelmed in the Supreme Court of Canada and having fired Dr. Bruce Clark who was a lawyer for the Temagami First Nation throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Gary Potts lost his popularity with people of Bear Island and since then never has been chosen as a chief. Gary Potts currently lives on the 1.8 square mile Bear island.

Traditionalists from Bear Island, argue that Gary Potts fell prey to luster of money and in fact has his own interest in selling land of Temagami to the government of Ontario and private mining companies.
