The Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, Portsmouth, is the Latin Rite Catholic cathedral of the Portsmouth Diocese (this should not be confused with the Anglican Diocese of Portsmouth). It is the seat of the Bishop of Portsmouth, currently Crispian Hollis, and was opened on 10 August 1892.
Diocese
The diocese is within the Metropolitan Province of Southwark. It includes the whole of Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and the Channel Islands, and also parts of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Dorset, stretching from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, in the north to the island of Jersey (near the French coast) in the south.
