followed_by ="The Physician" is a novel by
Noah Gordon ,1986 . It is about the life of an English boy of the11th century , named Robert Jeremy Cole. It is part of the "Cole Family trilogy".He journeys throughout Europe and later into Persia (Iran) enhancing his medical skills studying the methods in use amongst the Persians of his day.
The book and its translations (especially into German) have been very well received. Its strength lies in the characters: it does not accurately desribe the history or even geography and languages of Europe and the middle east at the time of Ibn Sina, even if the reader can get this impression.
Plot summary
Cole travels through Europe to Ispahan, Persia, an Arab medical school. There he has the good fortune to study with Ibn Sina, the great physician.
