Jebsens was founded in 1929 by Kristian Jebsen (1901-1967), starting out with a DWT|2,400|metric|first=yes
steam ship that operates onNorth Sea trade. ByWorld War II the company was operating four vessels, but all four were lost in the war. After the war the company went into short sea lining and tankers. Among the largest customers wereNational Lead 's subsidiariesKronos-Titan and Titania as well asNorsk Jernverk . By 1980 Jebsens was operating 27 ships in the DWT|3,500 to DWT|7,500 class. But the harsh years for shipping during the 1980s gave the company financial difficulties, forcing the company to merge its operating division with Paal Wilson & Co in 1993, creating Jebsen Wilson Euro Carriers. At first a joint venture, in 1995 Jebsens bough out Paal Wilson & Co, just to be bought by the same company two years later. The heritage exists today as part ofWilson ASA .
