Alex Loughton (born 3 May 1983, in Perth, Western Australia) is an Australian professional basketball player, currently playing for the Perth Wildcats in the Australian National Basketball League.

Loughton began to make a name for himself when he was selected in the Australian Under-20 team, he went onto average 17.4ppg and 10.3rpg and it wasn't long before scouts began to take notice of Alex. Which lead to him moving over to America to play college basketball with Old Dominion University. In his first season he started all but two games and averaged 8 and 6. In his following, Alex hauled a career best 45pts and 15rebs and backed it up with a very consistent season and averaged 17ppg and 9rpg for the 2004 season. But Alex never really re-captured that same form. Alex went onto win CAA Player of the Year and Tournament MVP in 2005. But he finished his college career with 1,646 career points and 952 career rebounds; which ranks him tenth all-time in ODU scoring, sixth in rebounding and seventh all-time in CAA rebounding.

Considered an outside chance to be selected in the 2006 NBA draft; Loughton had a few NBA trails with New Orleans. However Alex was over looked in the NBA draft, and instead signed with Spanish basketball team Aguas Gandia. After a reasonable season with Aguas Gandia Alex signed with the Perth Wildcats in the NBL for the 07/08 season
