Malleus et Falcis

The Order of Malleus et Falcis, or Hammer and Sickle, is a secret society based out of The George Washington University, in Washington, DC, and one of the most secretive student societies in the United States. Malleus et Falcis has kept its membership and rituals secret since its inception in 1924. The organization has traditionally been assosciated with progressive social and political causes emerging as early critics of the rise of fascism in Europe in the 1930s. The organization included several Lincoln Brigade members who participated in the fight against Franco's forces during the Spanish Civil War of the late 1930s. The society also published several articles in local Washington D.C. newspapers advocating Huey Long's Share Our Wealth program and his anticipated presidential run.

Traditionally the Order has been male-only but receptive towards minorities since a change in charter in the early 1940s. Not much is known about the Order's activity in the past decade and its membership records are reported to be under seal at the Gelman Library on George Washington's campus.
