Background

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Diego Zangado graduated in symphonic percussion and classical music from the Escola de Musica Villa-Lobos, one of the most traditional conservatories in Rio de Janeiro. He extended his studies taking classes from Eliseu Costa, the solo timpanist of the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theatre Orchestra and Andre Boxexa, timpanist of the Brazilian National Symphonic Orchestra and drummer of "Agua de Moringa", a well-known group of samba and choro. Diego also took composition and harmony lessons from the electroacoustic music composer Tato Taborda.

Diego became the first timpanist of the Fluminense Federal University symphonic band and he was elected the best instrumentalist in the 1999 Festvilla, the music festival of the Villa-Lobos Music School.

As a teacher, Diego has coordinated a percussion group with less fortunate children from Rio de Janeiro. He also has been teaching in several music schools. Diego owns his studio, where he teaches private drums and percussion classes. He has also organised quick courses in several cities in Brazil.

Currently

Since 2004, Diego accompanies the famous pianist, singer and composer Francis Hime, and travels along with him, promoting his recent work, as well as his popular hits. Also he accompanies Francis' wife Olivia Hime, well-known singer and songwriter. Diego is also the drummer of Elton Medeiros, a true samba icon.

Diego is the drummer of Casuarina, a samba band that has been appointed as the best group in the current samba scene. Casuarina won the 2006 Rival Petrobras Music Awards, as "Best Musical Group".

Diego is the percussionist of the group Pedra Lispe, a music band that mixes contemporary instrumental music and Brazilian regional armorial music.

Diego also plays as a duo with the guitar player Caio Marcio. Caio was nominated for the 2004 Tim Music Awards, as "Revelation". Diego also is a member of the group "Batucada Urbana", lead by the mandolin player Henry Lentino. The group was nominated for the 7th Visa Instrumental Music Awards.
