John Smeaton Community High School

[http://www.johnsmeaton.leeds.sch.uk John Smeaton Community College] is a state college for 11-18 years olds in between Scholes, Crossgates, Barwick-in-Elmet, Pendas Fields and Swarcliffe, in Leeds. The college recently went through OFSTED who reported back that John Smeaton Community College was "A good school with outstanding features". This coupled with impressive exam results and the college sitting top of the CVA table in Leeds has made for a truly remarkable success story. There has recently been work to reconstruct the school, in association with Leeds City Council and a privately owned business. The new school building boasts brand new state of the art facilities.

The school was re-opened by Scot, John Smeaton, made famous as a hero during the attempted terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport, however, he should not be confused with the school's namesake, 18th Century Civil Engineer John Smeaton of Austhorpe, Leeds.
