Assistant Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Energy

The Assistant Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Energy is the head of the Office of Nuclear Energy within the United States Department of Energy. The Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy is responsible for the Department's nuclear technology research and development, management of the Department's nuclear technology infrastructure, and support to nuclear education in the United States. The Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy executes a $536 million annual budget. The incumbent head of the Office of Nuclear Energy is Dennis Spurgeon, the first Assistant Secretary in more than a decade.
