ČT2 is Czech national television channel, operated by Česká televize. ČT2 broadcasts documentaries and nature-oriented shows such as fishing shows. This channel also frequently shows foreign films in the original versions with Czech subtitles, including many English-language movies. Also some parts of major world, European and Czech sports events (i.e. Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup or UEFA European Football Championship).

History

ČST2 launched on 10 May, 1967 and was broadcast throughout Czechoslovakia 1970. In 1973 the channel changed from black-and-white to Colour.

Following the entry of federalism in Czechoslovakia in 1990, ČST2 was split into ČTV in Czech Republic, S1 in Slovak Republic. the two channels began broadcasting only to the Czech and Slovakia.

On 1 January, 1993, ČTV changes its name to ČT2, now the second channel of the new Česká televize, created one year earlier following the Velvet Revolution.
