War Machine landed some good shots that cut open Speer, and sunk in a Rear Naked Choke, but with the massive amount of blood dripping, he couldn't tighten the hold enough to make Speer tap. Speer went on to win a Decision. The Choke was controversial because it appeared that Speer had tapped, although the referee did not stop the fight. Koppenhaver legally changed his name due to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling trademarking the "War Machine" nickname for their wrestler Rhino.

War Machine talked about the loss of his father to a heart attack when he was 14 years old on . War Machine performed CPR on his father, but ultimately his father passed away as a result of the heart attack.
