BreakingNewsOn is a free micro-news service dedicated to breaking news stories. The website was originally founded in the Netherlands and is based on the Twitter social networking site. It has quickly grown to be one of the most successful news sources within the Twitter network. Founded in May, 2007, the site is growing rapidly and said it would announce a new service called The News Wire soon. The news service is used by mostly journalists and 'newsjunkies'.

Among the editors of the website are journalists from the Netherlands and the United States.

Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, instant messaging, SMS, RSS, email or through an application.

On September 7, 2007, it reportedly obtained an unpublished videotape featuring Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, which was later sold to the Reuters news agency.
