August 2 ,1935 ,Příbram ,Czechoslovakia –May 20 ,1989 ,Prague ) was a Czechscreenwriter andfilm director . Although not as famous asMiloš Forman orJiří Menzel , he was an exponent of theCzech New Wave as well.
